The Hub Ironworks, Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire : advert in The Municipal & Road Engineers' Standard Catalogue, 1929 - 1932 ; The Standard Catalogue Company ; London ; 1933

The second edition of the vast publication the "Municipal and Road Engineers' Standard Catalogue, 1929 - 1932" contains many hundreds of pages of adverts showing plant, appliances and supplies across a wide range of 'municipal' engineering such as road construction, lighting, refuse disposal, water supplies and sewerage and park equipment.

What a wonderful array of the then 'new' 1933 'recommended' road signs as favoured by the Ministry of Transport, alongside some superb direction posts and boundary markers. Many counties 'supported' their own, local ironworks to cast such items as can be seen from these Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Warwickshire examples. Do any survive I wonder? - that one on the A41, replete with street lamps and refuge lighting must have been quite something in the middle of the road somewhere near Solihull I suspect!
