Reconstruction works at Tottenham Court Road station, London Underground, February 2015 - deep level works
The London Underground tube station at Tottenham Court Road, first opened for Central line services in 1900 with the 'Northern line' joining it in 1907 and having under gone various changes in the last century, is now being massively reconstructed to allieviate conditions that were pretty grim for both passengers and staff. New entrances, ticket halls, escalators and platform links are being constructed - alongside the wholly new Crossrail facilities that come into use in three years time. It is a massive job. I went on a site inspection so these are taken legitimately!
An unusual view of the old station supervisors office at TCR (you can see the old black and white tiles!) - about 30m underground - this is the breakthrough from what was until recently solid clay backing that massive brick wall that has some very odd constructional details!
