"What a perfect combination!" - advert issued by Automatic Electric Co Ltd (ATM), Strowger Works, Liverpool - 1934

A very contemporary take on the telephone in 1934 - and the basis of the 'standard' GPO telephone for many years. The Liverpool based Automatic Electric Co Ltd, also known under the tradname of 'ATM' made many phone and exchange components as well as the control systems for signalling and traffic signals. The 'Strowger' in the works name refers to Almon Brown Strowger (1839 - 1902) who developed the basis of automatic telephone exchanges and who helped form the Automatic Electric Company in the USA in 1901.
