A standard British Railways pocket, card timetable - this for services out of London Liverpool Street to the Essex coastal towns of Clacton-on-Sea, Frinton-on-Sea and Walton-on-Naze for the winter of 1957/8. These were the dying days of steam services on the branches beyond Colchester as the lines were, by this time, being electrified as part of BR's experiments to replace the previously agreed 1500v DC system with the 25kv AC system that was to become standard. The electrified services started on 16 March 1959 - between Colchester and the coast towns - through electrified services to London began in 1962. This timetable shows the through services - along with restaurant services available!
