Stuttgart- Schillerplatz Fruchtkasten
The Fruchtkasten (so-called "fruit box") is a late-Gothic stone building in the Schillerplatz. It is one of the oldest preserved buildings in Stuttgart . Nowadays the house is used as a part of the Landesmuseum to house its collection of musical instruments.
Outstanding pieces from the Landesmuseum's extensive collection of historical musical instruments from the 17th to early 19th Century are frequently brought out and played for performances in a concert hall on the ground floor.
The "Fruit Bo"x was mentioned for the first time in 1393 as "great grand wine cellars behind the Stiftskirchhof". Later, the wine press was used as a fruit box (grain storage). In 1596 Heinrich Schickhardt built the Schloss- und Kanzleiplatz on behalf of Duke Friedrich I. Within the scope of these measures, five meters of the fruit box were removed and the present renaissance façade was erected. In 1944/45, the fruit box burnt down. In the reconstruction of the 1950s
