IJN Kirishima
One of a class of four battlecruisers, rebuilt between the wars as fast battleships, Krishima underwent a major rebuild in the 30's. In this she was lengthened by some 25 feet, given new machinery which increased her power from 64,000 shp to 136,000 shp, which saw an increase in speed from 27.5 kts to almost 31kts.which was quite impressive given that her displacement has also risen from 32000 tons full load as built, to over 37,000 tons after reconstruction! In one of the last battleship vs battleship engagements in history, she was sunk by gunfire from the US battleships Washiungton and South Dakota off Savo Island on 15 November 1942.
