Switchboard used by Laurel Fork, VA

 

Ms. Fork was the operator, and her own phone "number" is listed on the sheet in front of the switchboard. The switchboard connected the customers on their party lines, each with their own, distinct, "ring signal" (3 short, 1 long, 2 shorts, etc. in different combinations) facilitated by the switchboard operator.
