Physician to the Revolutionary army...
...a free, Black man.
The 4th & 5th grade students have been studying Colonial America (4th: early colonial times, 5th: up to the revolution). One of their academic assignments was to write a biography of a fictional Colonial character, using what they had learned in class, on field trips, from guest speakers (including 3 men who do historical re-enactments of the battle in Lexington, MA, who arrived in uniform, with muskets!) and from individual research. They brought notes about their characters to art classes, where they created portraits of their characters.
