"Hold your fire - she's friendly"

View from inside a lookout at Fort Rodd Hill National Historic Site looking out towards the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

The Site was a 19th century artillery fort on the coast of Vancouver Isaland near Esquimalt Harbour, approximately 15 kilometers from downtown Victoria, B.C.

The Fort is adjacent to Fisgard Lighthouse the first lighthouse on the west coast of Canada.

At the beginning of World War II plans were made to upgrade the defences at Fort Rodd Hill due to the age and obsolescence of the guns in place at that time - and the risk of invasion - must of worked; no one showed up on the beaches.
