More Villains for Captain Fantastic!
Big Guy actually started out as a completely different character -- he was going to be your run of the mill giant-super-strong guy. I was intending to base his appearance off a horned toad just for fun when I realized it would be much more fun to have a scrawny, emo teenage punk as the super-strong villain. He's supposed to look kind of strung out and just plain mean. Janus is the \"mysterious-villain-who-knows-the-hero's-secret-past.\" He was devised when I wondered what Bruce Wayne would be like if he were evil -- and had super powers. And he's an albino. Yo.
Dr. Josiah Maverick (no picture) - Once one of the richest men in the world, Josiah inherited Maverick Industries from his family but spent most of his billions performing scientific experiments. A magnificent mind, he never the less had some serious issues with his moral compass. Dr. Maverick rarely blinked at using human test subjects, tackling various ethically challenging experiments, or "neglecting" to check on the credentials of his patrons. Known as Capital City's premier mad scientist, Maverick's career was cut short when his entire lab compounded exploded and left behind a smoking crater -- and the amnesiac Captain Fantastic.
Big Guy - Freddy Bates was your typical teenage hoodlum. Scrawny and short, he tackled the world with a chip on his shoulder and bit of more than he could chew. After getting involved in, and escaping from, a particularly nasty gang incident, Freddy found himself out of places to hide from the law. That was when Dr. Josiah Maverick stepped in and offered him a deal. In exchange for cleaning up the boy's criminal record, Freddy would submit to a few... harmless tests. After having his DNA spliced with various animals, Bates gained enhanced strength, endurance, and resilience. He went from a 110 pound weakling, to a formidable 250 pound power house thanks to a super dense muscle structure. Left unharmed by the explosion of Dr. Maverick's lab, Freddy quickly joined up with Vinnie's gang of villains and became the group's heavy hitter. The media dubbed him "Big Guy" as something of a joke, but he's since earned the name by taking on Captain Fantastic in hand to hand combat.
Mr. X/Janus Maverick - The son of Dr. Josiah Maverick, Janus is as much a scientific genius as his father -- though even more morally challenged. After watching Josiah fritter away a massive fortune and nearly bankrupting the family company, Janus finally stepped in and took over as CEO. He rebuilt Maverick Industries from the ground up into the world's largest and most profitable company. Preferring to direct things from behind the scenes, Janus is still one of the most recognizable faces in Capital City -- as well as being the richest man in the world. Diagnosed with a rare degenerative condition at an early age, he suffered through his father's many attempts to cure him. One of the procedures seems to have an effect of some kind, granting him powers nearly identical to Captain Fantastic. Janus occasionally poses as the mysterious villain everyone calls "Mr. X" and has indicated he knows a great deal about Fantastic's history. Why he chose to torment the super hero is anyone's guess.
