Natural History Museum ancient horse

Fossil skeleton of an ancient horse found in the western United States. Horses were actually native to North America for a time, but died out early. They were reintroduced by the Spanish in the 1500s. This particular horse is a bit small to take off on across the Great Plains, being not much more than knee high to an adult human.
