As domesticated European honeybees decline in California (and elsewhere), due to colony collapse disorder (CCD), native bees are becoming recognized a more-important source of pollinators. Research is showing that some native bees are actually more wfficient pollinators than honeybees, and are often less aggressive. Carpenter bees are solitary, and therefore not susceptible to CCD.
