Sahara Necklace

The starting point for this eyecatching necklace was a portion of a damaged vintage necklace that I came across in my search for vintage jewelry. I loved the colors and shapes, and felt that it would be a nice challenge to breathe some new life into the beautiful enameled links. The metal Y shaped portion of the necklace is vintage with the exception of the teal picasso beads which I added on using brass head pins. I then strung a rope of alternating gold, orange and teal beads in different shapes and sizes to complement the colors in the repurposed vintage portion. The beaded portion has multiple passes of very sturdy nymo, a thread widely used by beadweavers, and is finished off with a gold plated safety clasp accented with a glittering swarovski crystal. The colors remind me of the desert with its golden brown sand and cloudless blue skies.

Dimensions:

Overall length is 20 inches (50.8 cm) excluding the dangling portion which hangs about 2 inches (50.8 mm) down from the bottom of the necklace
