EHA-436D.BMMO STAFFORD

It's my birthday again so I thought I would find a favourite photo and chose this one from the early days when all I had was a primitive Ilford Sporti. Like many of the other too old to go out on the road drivers veteran Sam Foster was given a stay of execution on the bus wash. In 1966 when 5436 EHA 436D was still new vehicles at Stafford Garage were still being washed by hand. Mr Simmons (Big Bill) the garage superintendant was very particular about clean wheels as quite rightly he said that if the wheels looked clean the whole bus looked clean. Sam started his career with Northern General in the days when buses still had solid wheels and buses like the D9 with semi-automatic gears and power-steering had certainly come a long way since he first started work.
