Big Sean - 'Dark Sky Paradise' #newmusic
repost from Swurv.
Big Sean! Never really been a fan, I've honestly never listened to any of his music before this album, "Dark Sky Paradise". So I popped this in and started listening.
I wasn't really impressed with the first track. I noticed it had no percussion, snares or kicks, I thought that was interesting. But that was about it. Some cute bars here and there. Nothing that really stood out to me.
Drake is still annoying, even on this album. "Blessings" was okay, until Aubrey showed up. Not a fan of his voice in this track, it sounded like there was some auto tune being used here. And that always bugs me. But regardless, I didn't notice any real bars from him or anything. By the end of the song, I could barely remember anything about it.
I heard Kanye's voice coming in on "All Your Fault", and I was glad there was some energy on this song. Kanye always has the right flow and energy, charisma is on point. But I hate that damn auto tune. Yeezus Christ, please stop. The hook, however, I dug quite a bit. It's catchy and the vocal mixing works there. Hearing Sean and Kanye go back and forth on the third verse was pretty cool.
"I.D.F.W.U" Man, DJ Mustard just makes the same damn beat, over and over and over and over. Sean occasionally caught my interest in this track, he was dipping in and out of a good flow, for me. Only moments here and there caught me. The hook seems like it would really only appeal to an audience younger than me. But, the last minute of the song had a cool beat flip, with some real sweet vocal samples. That was nice.
"Play No Games" is absolutely a club song, and that's mainly why it just doesn't work for me.
By the time I got to "Stay Down", I was completely bored. So I decided to set it down, go do something else for a while and come back to the album, start the whole thing over. And I still felt the same way. The song featuring Kanye has a solid beat, and hook. Nothing special about Play No Games, in fact, I can't stand that damn hook. I can't take this serious, homie.
"Paradise" comes in with a real dark beat by MWMI. But Sean just fucks it up with his lame ass lyrics. He had a nice third verse, we went in with a dope flow, and I guess it's cool that he's just being "fuck you" "fuck you". I guess. Just doesn't work for me. I like Ms. Aiko and her vocals on "Win Some, Lose Some", but that shouldn't be a surprise, because she's dope. This beat of course has more of an R&B atmosphere, but it just didn't grab me. I think it's just Sean and his voice. He's got no charisma for me, I kind of drift off when I'm listening to his voice over the mic. He doesn't make me want to listen. Is this what people feel when they say Cole is boring? Shit, 2014 is better than this.
I really felt bored on "I Know". Extremely bored. I don't remember anything about that song. Then Sea does it again with "Deep", coming in with that monotone, I-just-woke-up voice and I just can't get into it. It's not for me, he, as a hip-hop artist, is not for me. I'm not a fan. I can appreciate the emotional content and meaning behind "Change The World", but again...as I have previously said...numerous times...
And the Outro. The beat, not the whole damn song in its entirety, the beat - is dope as fuck. That's my favorite beat on this album. I don't have anything else to say. But maybe you'll like it.
I'm sorry, but my man Anthony had it right:
