Awwh. . .the memories

This one got left out of my recently published quilt book. I guess that just means I'll have to publish a 'volume 2'. This one was started in 1978 or 1979. I have a very clear memory of taking these blocks to the hospital with me when Veronica was born, and Dr. Carlin coming in while I was working on one, and commenting on my stitching! Another memory of working on this quilt is from the winter of 1980, when I had the quilt set up in the frame (in our living room). Because 'the husband' didn't like quilts interfering with his television viewing, I put it in the corner and enlisted my mother's quilting help one afternoon, so that it would be out of the living room soon. She had forgotten her glasses, but proceeded to help me quilt all afternoon without glasses. When she left, I inspected her part of the quilt and found that there were some lines that should have been straight lines, and were, let's say, creatively jagged. At first, I thought, oh no, some crooked lines, but then I decided that I would always remember how my mother came to help me quilt and exactly 'where' she had quilted on my Sunbonnet Sue quilt for 'my girls' bed. The quilt was finished soon after that and the ruffles added to match the curtains, made the year before. You may wonder, why did she choose orange?? Was it just the late 70's, or maybe someone's favorite color at the time? NO, it was a much simpler, economic reason: the orange gingham fabric was on sale at Kmart for a dollar a yard! And I couldn't pass up a bargain like that! (I would have much preferred pink or purple, though!)
