Cole's Bush Cicada - Megatibicen tremulus - Yuma County CO - September 2016
Photographed at Wray City Park. Talk about bug-eyed!
This fabulous creature (I think pretty much all cicadas are fabulous) is a "cryptic" species, long considered part of the "Bush Cicada" (T. dorsatus), until Cole (2008) published a paper documenting the dramatically different "song."
T. tremulus has been reported from at least Colorado, New Mexico & w. Texas per BugGuide.
