White-tipped Black Moth - Melanchroia chephise - Baja California Sur, MX - January 2016

Photographed at Caduaño. Per Wikipedia and Butterflies and Moths of North America, this species ranges from Florida and Texas, south to Paraguay, Straying have been recorded from Arizona, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas and Illinois. However, it does occur farther west in MX with a number of records from Sinaloa in iNaturalist. However, this may be a first Baja record. When it flew past us, I thought it a White-tipped Metalmark, which gives a remarkably similar first impression
