Tachytes amazonus - Weld County, CO - August 2015

Apparently, this species ranges across much of the US south well into South America... yet there are no photos on the internet that I could find, and it is a new species for BugGuide (not easy thing to do... in this case, luck not skill on my part). Tachytes are a genus in the family Crabroninae, which are called square-headed wasps. The word Tachytes means rapid or speed. Apparently they lay there eggs in grasshoppers and katydids and the adults feed on nectar
