Chucker Partridge

The first successful introductions were made in the mountains of the western states. These areas proved to be similar to the arid mountainous habitat of the Chuckar's in native Europe and Asia. In arid regions where chukars live water is an important factor for survival. Sufficient rainfall is required for a good growth of vegetation (particularly cheatgrass, an important food for the chukar) and for drinking purposes. Several years of good rainfall will produce a high population of chukar.
