These Soviet built locomotives were manufactured in large quantities for most East European countries between 1960 and 1989. They are a more powerful version of the TEM1 which can trace its ancestory back to the USA Alco built Class DA's the Russian took delivery of in 1944-45. The TME2's are fitted with a Penza type PD1M engine which is a 6 cylinder supercharged four stroke. They develope 883kW producing 347kN tractive effort.
