Built in large numbers by Fablok of Chrzanów between 1959 and 1993 the SM42/SP42 & SU42's were once standard diesel traction for yard shunting, light freights and rural passenger services in Poland. The main fleet was the SM42 which comprised running numbers 001 to 1157 some of which later received ETS to become classified SU42's. The main passenger fleet were the steam heat fitted SP42's which had gone into production in 1966 with their own number series SP42 001 to 270.
SM42-819 seen here doesn't need train heat for this late summer cross country passenger working. It is waiting departure from Ostrołęka with the 09.43 train to Szcytno.
