CFR class 87's an 764/1 at Tîrgu Mureş Depot. 29/06/95.
The 760mm gauge depot at Tîrgu Mureş was one of the larger narrow gauge depots on the CFR network before it all closed in 1997. It had a sizable allocation of type L45DH B-B diesel hydraulics (class 87's) plus a few serviceable steam locomotives retained for special occasions. The narrow gauge network radiating from here once had over 200kms of running lines but by the time of my visit only the the line to north to Miheşu de Câmpie and its branch from Band to Lechinta survived with the southern line to Băile Sovata having already shut .Here 87 0026 stands on the depot reception lines in a rather non standard tangerine red livery while more traditional burgundy and silver liveried example no.87 0015 is in the left background. To the right is 0-8-0T no. 764 159 being made ready for a charter special to Miheşu de Câmpie.
