Former 2-HAP EMU 6142 is seen at Shepperton having been transferred to departmental use in 1983 as a CM&EE (Chief Mechanical & Electrical Engineers) test unit numbered 053 with departmental stock numbers ADB 977211+ADB 977212. The unit was based at nearby Strawberry Hill Depot where the BR Southern Region CM&EE department based several of their test and research units. The Shepperton branch running south west from Strawberry Hill being an obvious choice for testing new components and traction equipment during night time possessions when the branch had no passenger service. The unit was eventually sold for scrap to Vic Berry's of Leicester and was broken up in July 1990 at his Leicester scrapyard.
