9029 on shuttle train 6498 at Cheriton Channel Tunnel Terminal. Kent.
The most powerful electric locomotives working in the UK were the Eurotunnel class 9/0's rated at 5760kW (7725hp) These 25kv AC Bo-Bo-Bo configured locomotives were subsequently up-rated to 7000kW (9387hp). As the whole class wasn't rebuilt the older locomotives are class 9/0 where as the 25 up-rated had 800 added to the running number to become class 9/8's with numbers in the 98xx range. The locomotives work in top and tail mode either end of the lengthy vehicle shuttle trains. The image I took above is of the rear locomotive no.9029 named 'Thomas Allen' on the rear of train 6498 18.51 Cheriton Terminal to Coquelles Terminal, Calais, France.
