Unscheduled

31446+31423 had worked down to Paignton with the overnight 1V26 2340 Liverpool - Paignton on 25-26th August 1989. The pair had been deemed unfit to do the return 1M37 0840 service to Manchester and been sent up to Exeter to be dealt with. This left the Manchester service in the hands of 47236, the Newton Abbot standby and the 31s were sent back down to Newton Abbot to take up standby duties, a fairly unusual option, arriving at around 1245 and leaving again light at 1745.
