31421+31455, 1V45 10th June 1989

Having plenty of time on my hands now I decided to digitise all of my prints and negatives. Just as well, as many of them are showing signs of fungal infection and other deterioration. The early prints were taken on cheap film, whatever I could get my hands on. This is a replacement from the original image, which has been cleaned up. The 1V45 from Manchester turned out to be the only 31 hauled service on the afternoon of the 10th, the 1V46 ex Stockport being handed over to 47624 Cyclops (www.flickr.com/photos/35992382@N00/29982866993/in/photost...) . I got a bit excited as 455 was the first departmental grey 31 that I had seen (little things eh?) and it was certainly a little less smoky than 421. The relative siz e of the rake can be seen on this shot; a D385 timing load of ten aircon carriages compared to the five or six on the 1V46. (p062-07f)
