Convict Lake, CA

I was curious about the name of this lake and looked up its history online. This lake was originally called Mono Lake, but it was renamed after a group of escaped convicts from Carson City tried to hide out here. Twenty-nine prisoners had escaped and when the posse caught up to them, a gun fight erupted and men from both sides were killed. Eventually, all the convicts were caught and hung. After the event, the lake became known as Convict Lake.

Today, the lake is a popular destination for boating and fishing. The high Sierra peaks make for beautiful scenery while visiting here. It's a place that I want to come back to and check out the fishing.
