The Wall

The wall between the U.S. and Mexico is less than a mile away from the town of Jacumba and where we were staying for this trip. We could see the wall from our motel off of old Highway 80. I really have mixed feelings about the wall. I know that times have changed but my ancestors immigrated to this country a few generations ago to have a better life for their children and these people are doing the same thing.

What's interesting though, the wall isn't complete. It ends a short distance to the East of the town. While we were here, a coyote dropped off a group of Chinese immigrants there and then they were led to a parking area next to an Interstate 8 off ramp by the border patrol. There were two tents, some firewood, and four outhouses for them to use until they went onto the next step in their journey.

Next, they will be taken back to be processed at the next border crossing. We found out from talking to a border patrol agent, they do this because there is a quota on how many people can cross into the U.S. each day. But if you cross around the wall, you automatically get processed and you can't get turned away. It's a loophole in the system.
