Dinosaurs are Coming!
While driving to Southern California from the Central Valley, we left Interstate 15 and drove South on Highway 79. This road travels through the Cleveland National Forest and meets back up with Interstate 8 near the border. We came around a bend and saw these dinosaurs running up on this ridgeline. We both looked at each other and said we're stopping.
My friend recognized the artist's name, Ricardo Breceda, and told me some of his back story. This artist has created amazing metal sculptures that are featured in Anza Borrego which was one of our shooting locations. The works here are smaller and could be put in front of a home or building. The sea serpent sculpture in the desert is 350 feet long!
The pieces up on the ridge are pretty much to scale and are huge. I was amazed at how much detail he was able to put into the heads and faces of the sculptures. You can find Iron Man, Bumblebee, and the original Alien on the ridge.
If you take the drive out here, it costs $10.00 to enter which you can use towards buying a bigger piece of art or pick out a small yard art sculpture. We did both. I got a rock and metal tortoise for my backyard. Well worth a few minutes to explore and photograph.
