Merced National Wildlife Refuge (In Explore)

I had a few minutes before the sunset started putting on its show so I turned around and took some pictures of this pond looking towards the Sierras. The refuge had a large amount of birds wintering here this year and there was also a lot of visitors like me taking in the experience. I've been here a few times when this pond has been bone dry. It was nice to see an abundance of water this year.

If you look in the sky, you can see a few groups of birds flying in for the evening. There are three large refuges in the area and many of the birds come to them in the evening after feeding during the day. The Sandhill Cranes were coming in while I was shooting this view.. It was a great place to watch the sun go down.
