Alaska Pipeline
This was taken just outside of Fairbanks, AK. The pipeline takes crude oil from Prudhoe Bay in the North to Valdez in the South. It is around 800 miles in length and it quite a sight to see as it snakes its way across the state of Alaska. The fins on top of the pipeline were designed to pull heat away from the pipe and keep it from melting the permafrost. The pipeline was finished in 1977 and is still carrying oil today but not at the same volume.
