Agecroft Sunset
A typical February Sunday afternoon on the outskirts of Salford. A train for Blackpool is pictured between the junctions at Brindle Heath, in the background and Agecroft. The train is composed of three two car dmu sets. two Cravens 105 sets leading and what appears to be a Derby 108 set at the rear. The empty area in the right background is the site of the former Agecroft loco shed. At this time there was still a sign on the site fence (the sleepers on the right) exhorting train spotters not to enter. The lines in the foreground lead to Agecroft Colliery.
Agecroft shed was opened by the L&Y in 1889 and closed by BR in October 1966.
February 1972
And it's all gone now, including the pit and the power station, covered by an industrial estate.
