Carter House Office
This was the office for the property of the Carter House. It was separate from the rest of the house, which was not a common practice. You can see the bullet holes on 2 sides of the building, though there is damage on all 4 sides.
The Carter's son, who had not been home in years b/c he was traveling with the army, was surprised that this battle was taking place on his home turf. I can't imagine what it would be like to have this surreal experience in such familiar surroundings. He was mortally wounded, though the family went out searching for him immediately. They brought him home where he died, but of the thousands of soldiers who wanted to see their families one last time before they died he is the only one who's wish came true.
