My best friend Jeff

I have been saving this photo for a special occasion, and a gratitude diary is a good one. This is Jeff D, the kid that lived across the hall from me 9 years ago. We were both kids, really, him with a new business and me with a new kid.

 

One night i was in trouble and ran across the hall, knowing this kid didn't lock his door. I ran into his apartment, locked the door and stood with my back against it out of breath movie-style fashion. It was 2 am, and he comes into the hallway. "Are you okay?" he asks. I have the nerve to look at him incredulously and say "No!".

 

Toph and i stayed there that night, and have been friends ever since. Jeff has helped me through several moves (y'all have seen how much stuff i have, so you know this is a huge favor!), several rough break ups, raising a kid (he changed diapers and everything, and this is not Jeff behavior, let me tell you!), and teaching me to cook. We used to have fondue parites and sit around and do nothing for ever.

 

So last night, Robby calls him for some help about his computer and i talked to him later to say thank you. He says, and i quote, "I really don't mind, since he's taking such good care of my best friend." I was so pleased! He is not an openly affectionate person, this is the nicest thing he's ever said to me.

 

So - he definitely deserves my gratitude photo today!
