ARRIVA Cymru: 688 CX09 BFZ, Menai Bridge

RIP 688 CX09 BFZ, 10th July 2019.

Following the news that this Bangor allocated Optare Solo M950SL had suffered a fateful fire whilst operating from the Llandudno outstation on route 26 to the Great Orme Summit. A quick scan into some unsorted photos from September 2014 shows it in happier times, having just crossed the Menai Bridge from the Isle of Anglesey, unusually operating on route 62 from Amlwch, the signs that Autumn is around the corner can be seen by the glow on the Horse Chestnut tree.

688 was part of the investment of a batch of new Solos 681 to 697 in 2009 for Bangor services. Two quickly moved on to Rhyl (later returning a few years later) whilst some over the years at Aberystwyth, later moving to Wrexham and one to Chester, 688 was one that remained at Bangor for it's whole service life. Here we find it in a fresh application of the revised 'interurban' fleet livery, one of the first of the batch to gain it, 688 also had the distinction of been route branded for the short lived 32 Bangor / Caernarfon - Porthmadog for a short time.
