Royal Spoonbill (Kotuku Kutupapa):
When tides are high silky white Kotuku Kutupapa perch sheltered and protected on the rock nugget pictured. Shy and graceful, they fly with the tide to spoon their bills in shallow Catlins estuaries (hence the name 'Spoonbill')
This capture also depicts sea kelp that makes for very good garden manure/fertiliser once it is becomes washed up on a/the beach.
