1956 Jaguar MkI Race Car
Of the many Jaguar race preparers in the UK, one name stands out head and shoulders above the rest when it comes to quality, fine detail and results on the race track. That name is M and C Wilkinson, the Yorkshire based historic Jaguar race car specialists behind many race winning Jaguars of note.
This car was acquired by Mike Wilkinson direct from the serious racing Jaguar collection of Alan Lloyd, who was the founder of Lloyds Chemists and an ex main board director of Jaguar Cars Ltd. Alan had acquired this genuine UK right hand drive Jaguar MkI saloon and converted it to full historic racing specification in 1990 and then campaigned it throughout Europe for several seasons with considerable success. Alan retired from racing about 10 years ago and Mike was first in the queue to acquire this special car and continue it's racing pedigree to the current day.
Outside, it looks truly stunning in Carmen Red and inside, the racing seat, harness and competition dash evoke memories of the late John Coombes and his highly respected racing saloons of the late 1950s and early 1960s.
The 3.4 'B-Type' head engine is freshly rebuilt by Sigma Engineering ,who set a new record for a 3.4 with their power output achieved on the dyno. A new aluminium radiator keeps everything cool and the 4 speed synchro gearbox benefits from a refresh, as does the rear axle which incorporates a 'Powerlock Gripper' limited slip differential. The FIA spec brakes (Mk9 calipers and discs with drums at the rear) are new, as are the hubs, wheels, Koni dampers and suspension. A new 'bag tank' sits in the boot
