Lycogala epidendrum (Wolf's milk slime mold)
It's always nice to find an amoeba out in the woods. The slime molds are not fungi (probably a sister group to fungi and animals). These are fruiting bodies (aethalia). When not in this form their plasmodia busily roam around eating. These were on a rotting log in bottomland forest. Congaree National Park, Richland County, South Carolina
