Okenia hypogaea (Beach peanut)

A state-listed endangered species, native to beaches of southeastern Florida. Like a peanut, after flowering the inflorescence finishes development underground, so the fruits are several inches below the sand. The flowers are impressive, about an inch wide and an amazing color. Virginia Key, Miami-Dade County, Florida.
