Hexastylis sorriei (Sandhill heartleaf)

Seepage adjacent to frequently burned longleaf pine sandhill. Sandhills Game Lands, Richmond County, North Carolina.

Had a great day botanizing the sandhills with Bruce Sorrie, as well as Viola expert Harvey Ballard from Ohio University and Andrew Stuart. This rare species, endemic to the sandhills of North and South Carolina, was named after Bruce by Chick Gaddy in 2011.
