Trichostigma octandrum (Hoopvine)

This is a very rare native in Florida, but it more widespread in the neotropics. In Florida it is known from a few shell mounts and a couple of tree islands. This plant, curiously, was planted by a Haitian family on a fenceline. It is widely used in the tropcis for basketry and as a food.

Homestead, Miami-Dade County.
