We have a long term trend in this country where workers have received less and less of the total pie and productivity has gone up and worker’s compensation has not kept pace. Our current crisis is 30 years in the making -- the declining purchasing power of average American. The day of reckoning is here. Employees are using credit cardsand house credits to survive. We need to do the short term stimulus package to help boost the economy, but we also need long term solutions-- unions are an important part of the story. The average union member gets about 12% more than the equal worker that is not unionized. 40 to 60 % want to be unionized but workers are afraid they will lose their job. Many employers will use any tactic they can. It’s about leveling the playing field. The Employee Free Choice Act is the best way.
