THE PERCHING POST.

black headed gull, (larus ridibundus) in it's winter plumage, the dark spot behind it's eye. which will soon start to turn to it's breeding plumage of a dark brown chocolate coloured head. this is the smallest of the common gulls, and in winter it may be confused with the common gull (larus canus) this one was perched on one of the new fence posts, soaking up the early morning sunshine at the kiln green. langholm, dumfriesshire, scotland.
