GREATER PRAIRIE CHICKEN
Down by Effingham, Illinois, I was able to go into a blind at 5:30 AM and wait for the GPC to appear. As my Sister-In-Law had mentioned in her pics, they put on quite the show and I would recommend anyone who has not seen this bird before to make the trip because it is worth it. After all these years, they are still very restricted to 2 tiny areas in Southern Illinois. Their booming sounds as they are confronting other males and calling out the females was quite unique. The 2 1/2 hrs we spent in the blind went quickly. The closest we got was probably 30-40 yards. Mostly they were about 60-70 yards away
