Return to Annapolis, MD June 2012

The S. S. Sophie at the Annapolis city dock. She is a 1947 Trumpy, 80' LOA with a 19' beam. The Sophie is owned by Fox network celebrity Greta van Susteren and her husband. The yacht is out of Florida and active in the Summer charter trade on the Chesapeake Bay.

Ann and the cats flew from Austin, Tx to Annapolis thus I drove back to Maryland at my leisure with the first stop at John's, the father of my daughter in law. John has a waterfront home in Gulf Shores, AL and via his boat took me on the Intercoastal Waterway to Florida. Much fun when we entered into Florida's emerald green waters. I didn't realize that the Mobile Bay had such a variety of waterways in its vicinity.

Next, I overnighted at Philip and Jackie's home in Griffen, GA and very much enjoyed their hospitality and an opportunity to see their Bluejacket 25.5 under construction. The foredeck contains an impressive variety of hardwood laminations. A large and spectacular inlay depicting the helicopter type that Philip flew in Viet Nam is on the foredeck just forward of the windshield frame. The forecabin ceilings have many varieties of hardwood and again very impressive. Their boat is clearly one of a kind and much to be proud of.

Next stop was overnight at Diane and Henry's in Amelia Courthouse, VA. Again, I enjoyed Bluejacket owner hospitality. Their BJ 28 now has chine flats installed. Diane and Henry are very committed to their build and will soon catch up with me. Attending boat shows, studying literature and Internet sites, they are doing a most detailed review of equipment and materials such as for cabin soles. They are now the instructor and I'm the student.

So, my Bluejacket build is on hold until my return to Texas in November.

Gone sailing...
