Family fun on the Chesapeake

Pictured are my son Chris and his family during a visit to Annapolis, Maryland. He races his Tripp 26 sailboat on Lake Travis, Tx. Chris was raised in Annapolis and learned the fine points of sailboat racing from folks who had sailed in the Olympics and those who later went on to crew in the Americas Cup. After trimming my boat's sails the best of my ability, Chris will tweak them and gain up to a 1/4 knot speed increase.

My grandson tolerates sailboats but has a strong preference for riding in a raft behind his parent's powerboat on Lake Travis. His mother Tammy is an accomplished water skier. Two weeks ago I tried waterskiing for the first time in 30 years. An ugly sight indeed as three attemps (5.3 litre V8 for power) to get me ski borne produced crashes. Next Spring I shall try again. Perhaps I need much, much wider skis along with improved upper body strength.

For me, this picture is a reminder of what boating is about...families having fun together, and working as a team to manage bad weather or any other nautical challenges.
