Finishing up the bottom work

Three coats of Alwgrip 545 epoxy primer were applied and the final coat sanded with 220 grit. This picture is staged as not good form to subject photographer and wife to overspray from toxic epoxy primer.

 

Per Awlgrip guidance, each coat dried for an hour before the next coat was applied and no sanding was necessary between coats as it was a hot coat situation that best can be accomplished via spraying.

 

With the epoxy saturated Xynole fabric, fairing compound, coat of sealing epoxy and three coats of epoxy primer, I would like to believe that water will never come in contact with the plywood bottom panels.

 

Until such time as the boat is used in salt water for an extended period, I will forego antifouling paint. Primary boating locale will be fresh water Lake Travis, Tx with the boat kept on a trailer.

 

I will reinforce ceiling beams in my garage to lift the Bluejacket off its trailer when the bottom needs servicing.

 

After the primer was applied, I installed a 1" wide half round stainless steel rub rail on the length of the keel. Ed Fredholm BJ 27 worked a very good deal with a stainless manufacture to acquire this rail for our boats.
