Not so ready keel for the stem area

I was disappointed with the test fit of the keel. I was naive in thinking the keel would fit like a glove. Some air gaps as large as 3/16 " between the keel and hull. Consequently. I laminated some strips of wood to the air gap portions of the inside radius of the keel. Using my angle grinder with a 36 grit multi-layer sanding device in it, I made fast work of sculpturing the keel to mate up with the hull. Call me Michelangelo.

Tom Lathrop, the Bluejacket designer, reports that he did the keel lamination in place on his boat. He did it in 1/4" thick strips and laminated two of these strips per day. He used screws to hold the laminations down to the hull as the epoxy cured. He then had to dress up the keel sides in place which was a tad more work then my use of the thickness planer to accomplish this particular task.

Historically, I tend to do things the hard way so when evaluating my techniques one should keep this in mind.
