VICTORIAN VIADUCT NEAR EDINBURGH
Past the old station of Ratho, the Glasgow-Edinburgh railway line crosses the Almond Water at a height of 70 feet. Opened in 1842 for the Edinburgh & Glasgow railway, there are 36 of "The Arches", making it the longest viaduct in Scotland. Its arches and piers were originally hollow but in the 1950's they were filled in with concrete to allow for higher train speeds.
